Super-powerful Aston DB11 AMR revealed

Keen-eyed enthusiasts will know those last three letters hint at something rather special, but in case you’re not aware, AMR stands for Aston Martin Racing – the luxury firm’s motorsport arm.

It began creating enhanced versions of Aston’s road-going cars in 2017, with its first being the Vantage AMR.

Now it’s got its hands on the DB11 – more specifically, the 5.2-litre V12 version. The headline news is the fettling done to the twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine, which has resulted in a 30 bhp increase – taking the total to a staggering 630 bhp, while torque remains unchanged at 700 Nm.

The result of that? A 3.5-second 0-60 mph time – two-tenths of a second faster than the standard car – with a top speed of 208 mph possible.

It’s not just more power here, though. Refinements have been made to the chassis to improve handling, while a recalibration of the eight-speed automatic gearbox means shift points have been optimised to make the most of the increased power. The exhaust has also been adjusted to give the V12 a more raucous note.

A host of visual upgrades set the AMR apart from the comparatively pedestrian regular DB11. Dark headlight surrounds and smoked tail lights feature, as does a darkened front grille along with matching exhausts.

It doesn’t end there, either. Gloss black highlights include the roof, side sills and front splitter, which contrast with exposed carbon-fibre vents on the bonnet and sidestrakes.

Inside the car, monotone leather and Alcantara features throughout – with a lime-coloured stripe placed through the centre of the car and on the seats. A leather-wrapped ‘sports’ steering wheel is also thrown in as standard.

The Aston Martin DB11 AMR is now on sale with prices starting at £174,995. Deliveries will follow soon after.
