Dozens of Figaro Rally participants arrive

On Wednesday evening 63 cars with 115 drivers and passengers, all members of the UK Nissan Figaro Owners Club, arrived on our shores for the rally. They are due to tour the Island and take part in several events.

Club founder Kevin Fagan, who led the previous visit in 2012, has once again organised the trip and all the visitors are staying at the Westhill Hotel.

Yesterday, participants enjoyed an Island drive, today there is a scavenger hunt and freedom to roam, while tomorrow the itinerary includes driving to the Lower Park in the morning and taking the ferry to visit Elizabeth Castle before lunch at Samarès Manor.

The Figaro was launched at the 1989 Tokyo Car Show under the slogan ‘Back to the Future’. Only four colours, symbolising the four seasons, were available: topaz mist,

emerald green, pale aqua and lapis grey. Just 8,000 were originally available, with 12,000 added to production numbers to meet the demand. Prospective purchasers had to enter a lottery to be able to buy one.

The Figaro Owners Club was launched in March 2009 to provide comprehensive advice and information to present and future owners. The organisers have asked any Islanders who see them on the road to give them a wave.
