DELOITTE offers BrightStart apprenticeships and graduate programmes for school leavers and university students in both Jersey and Guernsey.
Pierce Walters joined Deloitte’s Summer Vacation Scheme in 2015 and went on to complete the BrightStart apprenticeship. He is now an assistant manager in the Jersey office.
‘My experience with Deloitte began in the winter of 2014 when Deloitte held their annual recruitment talk at Hautlieu, at which they laid out the various opportunities they provide to students in terms of both work experience and post-education employment.
‘Since this assembly I haven’t looked back as, months later, I took part in the 2015 Summer Vacation Scheme – a fully immersive six-week internship at Deloitte, offered to Year 12 students. During these six weeks, I worked on a number of different projects and met a variety of people both within Deloitte and client-wise. This experience made it clear that Deloitte, rather than university, was the path for me.
‘I then joined Deloitte joined the firm full-time in September 2016 via the BrightStart scheme, through which Deloitte offers positions to students following the completion of their A-levels, as long as they meet the necessary entry requirements. This scheme is a four-year contract allowing new joiners to earn as you learn.
‘During these four years, Deloitte supports both your professional and educational development. You will see your responsibilities gradually increase on the projects you work on, while also attending college in order to attain your Chartered Accountancy qualification, with either the ACA or ACCA.
‘Fast-forward almost five years and I am now a fully qualified accountant, working as an assistant manager within audit, with a focus on real-estate clients. Over the course of the past five years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many different clients from many different sectors, which has allowed me to develop my knowledge and experience substantially.
‘With hindsight, I’m certain I made the right choice in joining Deloitte, and encourage others to get in touch in order to find out more.’
