If you do take a walk through town to survey the wide array of financial institutions, you’ll see the HBFS plaque displayed outside Salisbury House, our office on Union Street. Enter through the doors and you’ll discover a smaller, niche finance house providing a personal and up-front approach to all things money.

In fact, we encourage a face-to-face service; new clients are welcome to come in for a free consultation. Our core philosophy is that every client should receive the same friendly, highly professional service irrespective of age, level of wealth or background.

Investment advice is our main aim and so is a holistic approach to managing money. To that end we provide advice on Pensions, Critical Illness and Life protection, Mortgage protection and Income protection.

‘I believed in HBFS so much I bought the company’ Michael Barney, Managing Director and Partner

Michael Barney felt so passionate about the company that in 2017 he and Marzena Dziewulska both took the decision to buy HBFS outright. They both saw people working in the small business community and saw that more and more entrepreneurs liked the idea

of building a business as well as running a business.

They realised that purchasing an existing business isn’t for everyone. It can be more costly than starting from scratch. However, there are a lot of benefits to buying an existing business:

  1. You are taking over an operation that’s already generating cash flow and profit.
  2. You have an established customer base and reputation in the industry, with a potential to grow the Jersey Residents market.
  3. You have employees who are familiar with the business and are trained to a high level.
  4. You have a formula for running the business including a number of procedures, systems, and policies which you can expand upon.

The company’s reputation was born out of over 30 years experience in the business. A lesson learned - one size does not fit all. That’s why all investment advice is tailored to each individual circumstance and risk appetite. By getting to know you, HBFS can identify the most appropriate solution for you.

Today’s financial market place has so many investment options to choose from. It can be a minefield; navigating your way around is often confusing, not to mention dangerous if you take the wrong turn.

HBFS will steer you and help you sort through the clutter. The company has developed an approved list of high quality, easily accessed financial solutions. These investments must meet strict criteria from a number of perspectives, such as past return, investment risk management, size, accessibility and cost.

Staying ahead of the curve by constantly surveying the market place enables HBFS introduce new solutions to this approved list. When making any investment it’s important to understand that the value of your savings can go up and down dependent on market prices.

What can you expect as our wealth management client?

Firstly, our team of advisers have over 3 decades of experience. There have been bull and bear markets and the crisis of 2007. Secondly, we have learned that it’s important to adapt and change and always put our clients first. Many of our clients are referrals and have been with us for many years, we never take them for granted.

Michael and Marzena look forward to welcoming clients old and new through the doors of HBFS. The aim as a business is to grow the company while continuing to provide bespoke advice to Jersey Residents. The Partners and team believe that the HBFS plaque outside the door will be synonymous for the leading Independent Financial Advisory firm in Jersey.
