The conference looks at themes of the future of wealth with a series of high-profile international speakers. It includes considering strategy with speakers such as the global head of UBS global institutions, David Soanes, speaking on the future of wealth from a European perspective and HSBC’s Chris Davies, who is in charge of 19 jurisdictions, speaking on the global outlook, compliance with key speakers from the European Banking Authority and European Banking Federation and innovation with the Ministry of Defence lead on the threats of state-led cyber warfare, as well as the head of innovation at Barclays globally.

Sandwiched in the middle of the day, as he used to be in a tight pack of runners, is the Olympic 400m silver in 1996, plus world individual silver and 4x400m gold-winning runner from the 1991 and 1997 World Championships, Roger Black. He also claimed two 400m and three 4x400m gold medals at the European Championships, together with Commonwealth 400m and 4x400m gold, plus Olympic relay silver and bronze and a belated 4x400m gold from the 1997 World Championships after the United States was disqualified. He was awarded an MBE for his services to sport.

His speech in Jersey will address issues of leadership and is designed to engage the audience in the lessons learnt throughout his athletics career, which resulted in him achieving his dream of standing on the Olympic rostrum in Atlanta in 1996. It includes a selection of Olympic images and archive race footage of the Gold Medal Winning 1991 World Championships 4x400m Relay.

There are many similarities between high performance in the worlds of sport and business. The topics addressed will include leadership, change management, overcoming adversity, the need to achieve fear of failure, the importance of teamwork, surrounding yourself with talent, and being proactive as opposed to reactive. His specialist areas of interest are the space between talent and performance, and the attitude and behaviours of world-class performers.

Chairman of the conference James Mews of Pinel Advocates said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Roger Black to Jersey to speak to business leaders.
