Invest in staff and strengthen your team

Most corporate businesses encourage training and certification among employees. However, within the busy trade industries, training is often overlooked or undervalued. As an employer, training is one of the most important investments. It makes a business a better place for an employer, his staff and the bottom line. It helps attract employees and build loyalty… if you invest in your staff, your staff will invest in you with their commitment, energy and drive.

Here at Signtech every employee has undertaken a level of training this year, be it health and safety training (which includes the likes of lifting, working at heights, handling hot equipment and carrying out risk assessments), or sales training to bring our team up to date with the latest products and finishes. Every member of the production team has attended a first aid course and we have also managed to send teams to vehicle-wrapping courses in the UK to enhance their wrapping skills and techniques.

In the ever-advancing world of signage and visual communications, we encourage staff to keep ahead of developments by visiting trade exhibitions in the UK and Amsterdam where they can view the latest products being showcased. Creative engagement is paramount for development and what better way to learn than by handling products directly and speaking to the experts. All of this not only keeps us informed, but excites and inspires us to take our business to the next level while accelerating our own team’s knowledge and skills.

Apart from the obvious legal and financial benefits that come with providing training and health and safety instruction for employees, businesses can also enjoy enhanced productivity and satisfaction by keeping the workplace safe and up to date with the latest industry innovations. Employees who are confident of their knowledge and their safety at work tend to be more satisfied and this ultimately increases productivity and in turn, the company’s profits.

Every employee can benefit from a structured training or development programme and it should therefore be a priority for every business. Training is fundamentally important for the overall health and success of a business and should be incorporated into all short- and long-term business plans. Be it in-house training, or programmes run by external entities or visiting specialists, investing in staff and keeping up to date with industry changes forces the employer to look to the future and keep his or her vision strong and current.
