THE Environment Minister has praised the “positive” response from local businesses to a government-funded electric-vehicle incentive scheme.
The 25 available subsidies, which provide funding towards the purchase of a second-hand electric van, were allocated over a six-week period.
The scheme was launched on 16 September and aims to reduce the Island’s transport emissions by encouraging businesses to switch to electric vehicles.
Environment Minister Steve Luce said: “I’m pleased to see such an immediate and positive response from local businesses to the second-hand electric-van incentive.
“This shows a real desire from businesses to switch to electric and support Jersey’s decarbonisation efforts.
“Business transport vehicles are responsible for a significant proportion of our transport emissions, so by making the switch to electric, businesses are supporting the Island’s transition towards a more sustainable transport future.”
A separate Electric Vehicle Purchase Incentive is still available to both individuals and businesses at a value of up to £3,500 towards the cost of an electric car or van.
Islanders can also apply for £300 towards the cost of an electric moped or motorcycle.
