POLICE are seeking witnesses to an alleged attack by at least one youth on an elderly man in St Helier – which the force has said appeared to be ‘unprovoked’.

The incident reportedly took place on Monday 10 April in Bath Street around 8:20pm.

In an appeal for information, police have said a man in his 70s was walking when he was assaulted ‘in what appears to be an unprovoked attack’ by at least one young man, who was in the company of several other boys and one girl – all believed to be aged between 15 and 16.

The alleged victim was taken to hospital due to the facial injuries he sustained and is still being treated at the time of writing.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault and released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

It is believed that the youths and the man were not known to each other.
