HOUSING Minister David Warr has returned from a visit to Poland during which he learnt about the latest developments in modular building technology.

The politician had discussions with Deputy Agnieszka Scigaj, appointed last year to the country’s council of ministers, for what were described as talks on ‘areas of commonality and shared issues’.

Deputy Warr was accompanying Jersey’s honorary Polish consul, Magdalena Chmielewska, who is working with the eastern European country’s government on an initiative to provide modular housing to Ukrainian refugees living in Poland.

The minister visited manufacturer AleHale, which is leading the project and has particular expertise in modular building technology.

Deputy Warr said: ‘I am committed to supporting Jersey’s construction industry with housing innovation.

‘The project being spearheaded by Magdalena and AleHale is particularly impressive.

‘It was also useful to learn more about Poland’s approach to housing policy.

‘Clearly on a much larger scale than us in Jersey, they have their own issues with vacant properties.’
