Man arrested after '£300,000 worth of drugs seized' at Jersey Harbour

TWO men have appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on separate charges of trying to smuggle drugs into Jersey.

Jeffrey George Witsey (60), from London, has been charged with importing around half a kilo of cocaine and 7,500 ecstasy tablets on Saturday, arriving in the Harbour on the Condor vessel from Poole.

The street value of the drugs was around £335,000. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Royal Court on 26 May.

In a separate case, Shaun Halliwell (39), from Manchester, is accused of importing around 80 grams of cocaine and a small amount of cannabis through the airport on Thursday evening on a flight from the city.

The street value of the cocaine was approximately £18,000. He was also remanded in custody and is due to appear before the Royal Court on 15 May.
