JERSEYMAN Brett Pitman has made national headlines after notching up a goalscoring record that even star Manchester City striker Erling Haaland would be proud of.
The 35-year-old former Bournemouth and Portsmouth striker helped his current club – AFC Portchester – move nine points clear at the top of the Wessex League Premier Division (the same level as Jersey Bulls) with another two goals on Tuesday, taking his league-and-cup tally to 45 in just 35 games.
Haaland, who has broken a string of Premier League records this season, has only managed a comparatively measly 27 goals.
However, The Sun’s claim that Pitman is Europe’s top scorer may be false, as there are claims that Northern League Division II striker Aiden Rutledge, of Birtley Town, has scored 47.
