A GROUVILLE couple have applied for permission to list their outbuilding on self-catering accommodation site Airbnb.

The building – which is located within five metres of the main property known as the Loft House on Route de la Hougue Bie – is currently used by visiting family and friends.

However, Glenn and Anna Capstick are seeking planning approval to change the use to a short-term holiday let.

The planning application states: ‘For the last 70 years the Loft House has provided guest accommodation for family and friends and will continue to do so.

‘Whilst not being utilised by visiting family and friends it will be available to tourists as a self-catered holiday let.

‘The income generated will support the maintenance and upkeep of the property and garden.’

The applicants defined their proposal as ‘a high-quality two-bedroom let in a self-contained cottage’. The application also states that the let will be ‘listed with a local holiday lettings company and on online platforms such as Airbnb in order to get as much exposure as possible’.

In a letter accompanying the application, Michael Steen, managing director at MS Planning, wrote: ‘This plan will support the continued investment and enhancement of the quality and range of visitor accommodation and the delivery of new visitor accommodation, to support the recovery and diversification of the sector; and to meet the changing demands of the Island.’
