VOTING for the 2022 JEP Pride of Jersey Awards is now under way and the 16,401 votes already cast mean the event is on track to attract a record level of support.

Last year’s awards broke the previous record, with a total of 36,887 votes cast.

Voting is open until midnight on 25 August, giving Islanders just one more week to choose their favourites from the 177 nominees across 14 categories.

The three nominees with the highest number of votes in each category will be shortlisted as finalists, with the winner being chosen by a panel of judges. Each category will be judged by a panel comprising a representative of the award sponsor, the previous year’s winner and a JEP employee. The headline sponsor for this year’s event is Jersey Post.

The awards ceremony, at which the winner of each category will be crowned, is due to take place on 22 September. This year will also see the first winner of the new Gary Burgess Award, which recognises an Islander who has acted as a guiding light for Islanders.

In a different format from the other awards, the winner will be chosen by Gary’s friends and colleagues in the media as a way to honour his legacy as a journalist and broadcaster.
