AN ‘inspiring’ six-year-old is preparing to cut her long locks to raise money for Age Concern Jersey.

Eliza Millen-Swainston has already raised over £2,000 for the charity, which supports the elderly and campaigns on their behalf, as she prepares to cut her hair, which is 31 inches long, into a bob.

Eliza, who attends St Clement’s Primary School, said of the charity: ‘It makes other people’s hearts happy.

‘People get very sick and they have to drink medicine which makes their hair fall out.

‘I’m doing it because people get lonely and they want some company. I’m really excited and my mum is really proud.’

Eliza’s older sister, Alice, also raised money for the charity by cutting her hair in 2015. She said: ‘I’m very proud of my sister, I find it very inspiring.

‘It’s lovely to see that Eliza is willing to donate her hair to charity.’

Eliza and her mother, Maryjane, are accepting donations in person in Queen Street, near to the Jersey Telecoms store, this Saturday from 10am onwards.

Maryjane said: ‘The charity is a lifeline for so many people. The money Alice raised in 2015 was used for the Liberation Lunches.’

Age Concern Jersey is based at Plaisant Place, Val Plaisant, and was originally opened in 1994 by then Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Sutton.

In addition to in-person donations, the family have set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for Age Concern Jersey. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/eliza-millen-swainston.
