TWO fire engines were called to a home in St John after an alarm woke the sleeping owners – who found their kitchen filled with smoke.

Jersey Fire and Rescue crews dealt with the incident, which had been caused by a chopping board and pan being left on a hob, in the early hours of this morning.

In a social media post, watch commander Richard Ryan said: ‘This incident highlights that having a working smoke alarm can and will save lives.’
