A PEDESTRIAN received ‘substantial injuries’ and had to be treated at the Hospital’s Emergency Department after a late-night road traffic collision in St John on the weekend, States police have said.

Police say a grey Hyundai hatchback was seen by witnesses doing a ‘burnout’ – when a car spins its wheels while stationary to create smoke – before hitting a man on Route du Nord near St John’s Church and leaving the scene, with the incident reportedly occurring just before midnight on Friday. The pedestrian had ‘substantial injuries to his side’ and was released from the Hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for information following the road traffic collision, and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision, the vehicle immediately before it happened or may have dash camera footage of the vehicle.

Anyone who may have seen this or who has any information is asked to contact police on 612612 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org
