FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire in Bellozanne Valley in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The blaze, at a home attached to a warehouse in the valley, started at around 1am and is believed to have started in an airing cupboard. Four people and a cat were able to escape without any injuries.

A post on the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service’s Facebook page said: ‘Two fire engines were sent to the incident with nine firefighters from Red Watch. On arrival the crews were confronted with large amounts of smoke coming out of the properties doors and windows.

‘The occupiers were alerted to the fire by the smoke alarm which undoubtedly saved their lives.’

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being carried out.
