Family reunited with cat find out it is not their pet

But the story had one vital flaw – it was the wrong cat.

Earlier this week, Liz and Keith de la Haye and their daughter Samantha thought that Tiger, who had been missing since October 2017, had finally come home.

The feline had been found by Elodie and Nathan Ollivier, who believed the animal bore a striking resemblance to a picture of Tiger which Liz had posted on a Facebook page when the pet first went missing.

She messaged Liz and the family came round and identified the cat as Tiger due to its cauliflower ear.

But, two days later, they realised that it could not have been their pet as Tiger had been castrated, whereas the cat found by Mr and Mrs Ollivier had not had that operation.

‘We took him to the vets to get checked and the vet did not think it was Tiger either. They are so alike but as he is not castrated it could not be Tiger,’ Mrs de la Haye said.

But she added that the family had become emotionally attached to the cat despite it not being their own, and said they might consider adopting him.

He has now been handed over to the JSPCA to be looked after.

Mrs de la Haye added: ‘We were hoping it was our own but regardless of that we formed a bond with him. He will be looked after now and given some attention. Once he has healed and become accustomed to humans again we might look at adopting him.’

She said that the cat needed medical attention, including an operation on its mouth.

‘He is in the best place now and he needs looking after,’ Mrs de la Haye said.

‘It would have been wonderful if it was Tiger and we still hope to find him one day.

‘The attention this has gained on social media is making people repost their missing-cat photos and so it is nice to see the story is giving people their own hope.’
