The Magistrate’s Court heard that Vincenzo Attanasio had at first denied the offence, but admitted it when the police showed him CCTV footage of him using the card in McDonald’s.
Last autumn, the government sent all Islanders a £100 Spend Local Card in a bid to stimulate the economy.
The court heard that between 28 August and 11 September, Attanasio had spent £65 on his neighbour’s card.
Imposing the fine, Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu told him: ‘The offence of fraud is a serious one.’
