Coastline search for missing man (32)

Mateusz Ruszczyk, was last seen at his home in St John at 9am on Saturday and his black Volvo saloon-style car has been found parked outside La Moye Prison. The States police think it was parked there at around 9.30am on Saturday.

The force says he is known to wear jeans, a grey Adidas zip-up jacket and a cap.

On Sunday night, the St Helier RNLI inshore vessel and the Jersey Lifeboat Association all-weather boat scoured the area around St Brelade’s Bay. Meanwhile, the Channel Islands Air Search plane flew in from Guernsey with crews focusing their attention on the same area as well as around Le Hocq.

A spokesperson for the Channel Islands Air Search said: ‘The aircraft was called out [Sunday] night to help the States of Jersey Police with the search for a missing person.

‘The aircraft took off from Guernsey at 11:11pm and, in co-ordination with the Jersey Coastguard, concentrated its thermal camera search from an altitude of 2,000 feet in the area between the Corbière Lighthouse and Noirmont.

‘During the flight we were asked to perform a coastline search as far as St Catherine’s Breakwater before returning to the original area for a more saturated search of the land area above the cliffs.

‘The aircraft landed back in Guernsey at 1:52am when all the assets – CIAS, ILB [RNLI], JLA and police – were stood down for the night.’

Yesterday morning, the CIAS aircraft took off again to conduct a daylight search alongside the Fire and Rescue Service inshore lifeboat. Officers from the States police were also seen looking for Mr Ruszczyk on foot near Beauport.

Anyone who may have seen Mr Ruszczyk or his black Volvo around the La Moye area is asked to contact the States police on 612612.
