The Duke of Edinburgh died on Friday at the age of 99. His funeral is to be held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Saturday 17 April at 3pm. Before the service, a ceremonial procession will be held inside the grounds of Windsor Castle.

A national one minute silence is to be held at 3pm on the day of the funeral with public and government buildings in Jersey, if they are open, being requested to observe the silence.

A flag pole will be erected in the Royal Square from Monday and will remain at half-mast until Sunday 18 April. The one minute silence in Jersey will be led by the Lieutenant Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton, the Bailiff Timothy Le Cocq and Chief Minister John Le Fondré.

The one minute silence will be started with a single round of cannon fire from the ramparts of Fort Regent and the end of the one minute silence will conclude with a second round.

Due to pandemic restrictions, books of condolence will not be made available and members of public are advised not to lay flowers until formally instructed to do so by the Bailiff’s Chambers. A virtual book of condolence is to be made available at www.royal.uk.

A service of thanksgiving celebrating the life and service of Prince Philip will be delivered by the Dean of Jersey, the Very Rev Mike Keirle on Thursday 10 June from the Town Church. It is hoped that the date of the event, which would of been the Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday, will coincide with further easing of pandemic restrictions. The service will also be live streamed via social media.
