The move has been approved by Jersey’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee and comes in time to help many of the 1,700 Jersey students studying in the UK and elsewhere return back to Jersey to be with their families for the festive period.

As part of the proposals, it is expected that all arrivals, whether they are green, amber or red, will be tested on their first, fifth and tenth days in the Island. More information is due to be released shortly.

It came on the same day that the UK recorded a 33,470 rise in cases – the biggest jump in daily numbers since the pandemic began.

The vast majority of the UK is now classed as red with just a few islands and regions of rural Scotland remaining green.

As part of Jersey’s Covid-19 travel traffic light system, those arriving from green areas must self-isolate until they receive their first negative result.

Those arriving from an amber region must self-isolate until they receive their first negative result taken from a day-five test.
