Dispute resolved as kiosk finds new home

The HideOut will relocate a few yards to the slipway at La Pulente following the resolution of a dispute with the parish.

Constable Mike Jackson had initially told kiosk owner Karl Sutton that his permit would not be renewed as work began to refurbish an adjacent toilet block.

The issue sparked a wave of protest, with more than 6,600 people signing a petition calling for the HideOut to be saved.

Although a previous Parish Assembly in September featured heated exchanges, this week’s meeting was a more sedate affair, with parishioners unanimously backing the compromise outlined by Mr Jackson.

The HideOut will move slightly to the south and be located on the slipway, while the parking area at the top of the slipway will become a temporary building compound while the toilet block and a new café are developed by site owner Shell House.

The temporary arrangements are expected to be in place until the end of April, Mr Jackson said.
