Covid-19 case confirmed at Jersey primary school – and fire service crew in isolation following positive test

And a fire service watch, consisting of 12 members, are also in isolation after a crew member tested positive.

Mark Rogers, director general of the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department, said: ‘We have been advised that there has been a confirmed positive case of Covid-19 identified at St Saviour’s Primary School.

‘Due to this, a class bubble has been sent home and the children are required to self-isolate. They will be tested at days five and eight, subject to parental or carer consent.

‘All parents have been informed and the school remains open, following advice from Environmental and Public Health.

‘The children in isolation will continue to receive school work and will carry on with their education. The premises has been disinfected and the school is continuing to follow the latest Public Health advice.’

Earlier this week a class at St Michael’s Preparatory in St Saviour was sent home after a pupil tested positive.

Commenting on the positive case in the Fire and Rescue Service, Paul Brown, chief fire officer, said: ‘The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service is working closely with the Contract Tracing Team and in line with public health guidance following a firefighter testing positive for Covid-19.

‘I would like to reassure Islanders that we were prepared for this eventuality, and plans were already in place to split the watches between Rouge Bouillon Headquarters and Western Fire Station. I have ensured that we have appropriate crew cover following this situation.

‘Cleaning has been enhanced since the beginning of Covid-19 and additional cleaning has been organised following this case. All personnel are required, as part of the safety plan, to maintain physical distancing wherever possible and, where this is not possible, to wear an approved face mask, meeting minimum standards.

‘All SJFRS personnel are being contacted and offered proactive screening tests and we are supporting the impacted firefighters with assistance from the Contract Tracing Team.”
