Fugitive sausage dog still making headlines with auction success

But now the exploits of the celebrated fugitive sausage dog Rosie have made it to the auctioneer’s catalogue.

Lot 253 at this week’s Glencoe auction in St Lawrence was an authentic framed JEP poster advertising the hound’s escapades when she boarded a bus in Gorey, forcing passengers to evacuate before leading pursuers on a three-hour chase around the village.

The poster advertising the story on 31 July 2013 was given a pre-sale valuation of between £30 and £50 but fetched £210 when the hammer fell this week, going to a local buyer.

The story, by Richard Heath – now JEP deputy editor – fought off competition from the Ham and High newspaper which had reported on police being called to a crêperie battle caused by a stale pastry, and another story from Exeter involving seagulls which dexterously switched off a television.

But for the Poke website – visited by more than 1.5 million people – the exploits of the fugitive sausage dog took the biscuit.
