Plans for three-bed unit at L’Etacq are withdrawn

JAJ Properties, owned by Tamba Park entrepreneur Jonathan Ruff, was hoping to develop the former quarry at the junction of Route du Ouest and Route des Landes, near L’Etacq.

However, many of the 95 public comments made on the application were against the idea.

Speaking to the JEP in June, Mr Ruff said he thought the public reaction had been ‘blown out of proportion’ and that the building would have a minimal impact on the site.

He added that the building was ‘a really nice self-catering three-bedroom unit which shows off Jersey at its best’.

The Growth, Housing and Environment Department also raised concerns about the development, saying it would be a ‘significant intensification’ of the green-zone area and that it would have to object if issues regarding access to the site were not addressed.

The JEP tried to contact Mr Ruff for comment yesterday but he was unavailable.

Meanwhile, a planning application for another green-zone site – this time on Route Orange in St Brelade – has also attracted a number of objections.

Dandara is hoping to demolish a large house and replace it with 18 ‘eco-friendly’ apartments.

However, since plans were lodged in July, 90 public comments have been lodged.

These include concerns with regards to over-development, increased traffic and the felling of mature trees.
