Memorial garden for Harry Zambon is opened at JCG

Mr Zambon – who was a personal trainer – died aged 25 in February 2019, after he suffered two brain haemorrhages and a stroke before being diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of cancer. Before his death he raised £12,000 for the Jersey Brain Tumour Charity and was named a finalist in the 2018 Pride of Britain awards.

Work on the site began in July this year after Mr Zambon’s mother, Sharon Shepherd, launched a crowdfunding campaign in 2019 to raise £10,000 to create the garden at JCG, where he studied while attending Victoria College.

The garden was scheduled to be completed before the start of the school term this month and was unveiled yesterday morning. The memorial will now provide a quiet outdoor space for students to reflect peacefully.

Mrs Shepherd thanked those involved in the project and said: ‘It’s really good to see it come together. I almost can’t believe it, as not that long ago it was lots of rubble. I’m so glad that it’s here now – everyone has worked so hard on it.’

Included in the garden is a letter from Harry sent to a friend who used to take the bus with him, which Mrs Shepherd says will serve as a reminder to students of the importance of friendship.
