The Monitoring and Enforcement Team has also made 1,200 random phone calls to check that people were at their designated address and had sent about 1,600 emails.

The checks are carried out to ensure that people who have arrived from countries that have an amber or red travel status are not increasing the risk of transmission by mixing with other members of the public.

The team also assists the Contact Tracing Team to ensure those who are direct contacts of a positive case, or who have received a positive test result, are isolating.

Additionally, the team investigates reports received from members of the public, through the monitoringcovid@gov.je email address, who are concerned that people are breaching isolation rules.

Officers have found that the vast majority of people are complying with the self-isolation rules. Earlier this month it was revealed that three people were being investigated over possible breaches.

Caroline Maffia, strategic lead for the Contact Tracing Monitoring and Enforcement Team, said: ‘It is brilliant that the vast majority of people are taking responsibility and self-isolating when required to do so. The border process, which clearly sets out what is expected of arriving passengers, has helped to do that. If people do not follow the rules we will investigate and, if appropriate, pursue prosecutions.

‘It is imperative that people arriving in the Island isolate when asked to do so. It is only by following these rules that we will ensure that we can keep cases low and stop the virus spreading throughout the community.’
