More police patrols due to antisocial behaviour

The States police have been carrying out patrols in St Brelade’s Bay and Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Park in partnership with the parish’s honorary force following a spate of reports of littering, noise and ‘intimidating behaviour’.

A spokesperson for the States police said: ‘We know this has been more prevalent lately – it’s a popular open area made even more appealing for young people with the good weather that we have seen. Noise nuisance, littering and intimidating behaviour have all featured in this area.’

In addition to the patrols, the police have also been working closely with the Youth Service to encourage outreach programmes aimed at diverting young people from becoming involved in crime and antisocial behaviour.

The police have also been meeting residents of the Portelet Common area, which was closed between 9pm and 5am each night after reports the area had been strewn with rubbish and broken glass and there had been vandalism to the German bunkers.

The spokesperson said: ‘With regards to Portelet Common, our community team recently met with residents, honorary police and the Growth, Housing and Environment Department to better understand issues there involving the dangers and the community impact of the bunker parties that were taking place.

‘Specific operations were undertaken and officers continue to patrol that area.

‘We didn’t receive any further reports of parties at the common after the area was closed at night and no arrests were made as the closure times were adhered to.

‘We’re really grateful to everyone for abiding by the rules and keeping the area clean and safe for all to enjoy its natural beauty. We’ll take positive action to address these issues, where offences are identified.’

Meanwhile, the States police have confirmed that they were carrying out increased patrols in Havre des Pas following reports of vandalism, littering, smashed glass and bad language.

The force dealt with 45 incidents of antisocial behaviour at Havre des Pas over the past three months – 15 in June, nine in July and 21 in August.
