Demolition of hotel wing continues apace

The Great Hall – the hotel’s former event space – has already been razed along with a former staff accommodation block on Wellington Road.

Planning permission for the Dandara development was granted in May last year and work started a few months later.

According to a design statement, the recently-demolished buildings – built after 1971 – were ‘surplus to operational requirements’ and the hotel’s focus has shifted to its award-winning Ayush Wellness Spa.

It followed a previous application which was withdrawn following concerns that the proposed replacement structures were too large.

The Hotel de France remains operational and is due to reopen for business on Wednesday after closing due to Covid-19.
