Investigation into Hospital discharge note

Earlier this week mental-health campaigner Andy Le Seelleur, whose wife took her own life four years ago, said the treatment of the patient was unacceptable.

In response, group managing director for Health Rob Sainsbury said the government was investigating the matter and he urged all people suffering from poor mental-health problems to seek the help they needed.

He said: ‘We are investigating this matter, including meeting today with Andy Le Seelleur, and cannot comment further until we have completed our investigation.

‘The Island’s mental-health services continue to help Islanders at risk of suicide or mental breakdown and we encourage Islanders to seek help should they need it.

‘We urge people who are suffering with their mental health and wellbeing to continue to seek support from our many Hospital and community services.’

Mr Le Seelleur, who is part of the new Suicide Alliance and also set up Thrive Jersey to help people with mental health and addiction, said the case angered him because of its similarities to the case of his wife, Monika.

He told the JEP he didn’t want to drag anyone through the mud but he could not stay quiet about the issue.

The government’s statement also said that it offered a vast range of services and facilities aimed at helping and improving the mental health and wellbeing of Islanders through clinical psychologists, therapists and primary mental-health care workers.

These services include the Listening Lounge, the Acute Mental Health Team, Orchard House Residential Unit, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, dementia services and various psychology and assessment services.
