Tamba boss: Reaction to home plans ‘blown out of proportion’

Jonathan Ruff says he thinks concerns raised over the holiday-let development have been ‘blown out of proportion’ and that the structure would have a minimal impact on the site – at the junction of Route des Landes and Route du Ouest.

‘It is called a green unit and has an arc-shaped roof which literally nestles into that space and that is why I looked at it because I thought, wow, this is an amazing site for the green unit. The actual unit itself complements the site, so it is just a win-win,’ he said.

‘What shows Jersey off better than that view and that location? Not a lot. It is a really nice self-catering three-bedroom unit which shows off Jersey at its best.

‘It is a commercial site – it is a quarry. It has all been dug out. We are not going to dig anything else out. We are not looking at disturbing any of the ground that is there. This building is built on a few piles that go into the ground and basically sits on them.’

Mr Ruff, whose most recent ventures include a hemp farm within the grounds of his Tamba Park site, added that he had no plans to sell the unit and was surprised how at least 13 people had objected to the scheme.

‘I did not think it would get much kickback, to be honest. I thought you could not get a more softer, nicer scheme. I am not selling it. I am renting it and I am just using it as a source of income,’ he said.

‘If you look at everybody who has complained it is nobody that lives near there. It is people from all over the show.

‘I think it has all been blown out of proportion, as things tend to be. A lot of people will like it and then some people will not and those are the people that you hear from.’
