Urgent treatment charges changed

Previously the fees would depend on whether the user was registered with a GP, but this policy has been withdrawn and replaced with charges that apply regardless of whether the user is registered.

The charges are:

  • Children four years of age or younger: No charge.
  • Children between the ages of five and 17: £10.
  • Adults 18 years old or over: £20.
  • A home visit from the Urgent Treatment Centre GP: £40.

While the majority of treatment at the Urgent Treatment Centre is available free of charge, a fee will be applicable if patients arrive for treatment that could ordinarily have been managed by a GP in the community. The Urgent Treatment Centre originally opened in April to give the Emergency Department increased capacity to handle ‘genuine emergencies’.

A government spokesperson said: ‘A new fee structure for GPs was put in place in April, when a temporary agreement was reached for GPs to be directly employed by Health and Community Services. This arrangement was established for a four-month period to put Jersey’s healthcare system in a stronger position to tackle Covid-19.

‘The fee structure and other arrangements for the period after July are presently under consideration. The Minister for Health and Social Services has decided it should not be amended before then.’
