Smoke from major Normandy fire visible from Jersey

News | Published:

A HUGE plume of smoke stretched across the sky to the south-east of Jersey today (29 May) after a large fire broke out at a recycling site in Normandy.

Several Islanders took to social media to try and find out about the incident in the town of Donville-les-Bains, about a mile north of Granville.

The scene at Le Hocq (28501516)

French media is reporting that at least 80 firefighters have been sent to the scene.

However, their efforts are allegedly being hampered by exploding car batteries and gas cylinders, along with strong winds which are causing the fire to spread to adjacent buildings.
