First arrest under coronavirus law

A 45-YEAR-OLD man has become the first person in Jersey to be charged under a new law which allows the police to enforce coronavirus measures.


Jade Hamon, a Jersey resident, was arrested in the Millennium Town Park on Saturday afternoon. He was charged under Article 5 of the new Covid-19 (Screening, Assessment and Isolation) (Jersey) Regulations 2020, which relates to the going into or remaining in public places during a period of restricted movement.

He was remanded in custody to HMP La Moye and was due to appear before the Magistrate's Court on Monday morning.
