Brian McCarthy, managing director of Le Masurier, said that work on the Bath Street site – adjacent to the former Odeon cinema – had already started and that they were currently on schedule.
‘The entire project team is working hard to address the challenges and risks associated with coronavirus, as are many other local businesses,’ he said.
‘In short, I believe that this will not impact on the financial delivery of the project at all, but there may naturally be timing issues due to the supply chain, with the sourcing of materials, some of which by necessity will be from overseas. In addition, any government enforcement of working from home would inevitably cause construction to cease on site.’
Meanwhile, Andium Homes, which is currently building hundreds of units of social housing, says all of its projects are still going ahead.
A total of 140 homes are due to be built at the former Samarès Nurseries site, 151 at Le Squez, 165 at Ann Court, 82 on the Summerland plot in Rouge Bouillon and 147 at La Collette, among others.
Dominique Caunce, head of client engagement for Andium, said: ‘All our construction sites remain open and active at this time, as they are in the UK. We are working closely with our construction partners to minimise any disruption through these difficult
and uncertain times.’
However, a £42 million project to redevelop the Airport has been suspended. Enabling works had already started and substantial construction work was due to start later this year.
A spokesman for Ports of Jersey said: ‘Ports of Jersey can confirm that in light of the current situation we are facing and the travel restrictions on incoming contractors, we have suspended work until further notice on all our major capital projects, including the Integrated Terminal [Future Airport].’
