Bumper surf puts fun into social distancing

As the Island comes to terms with the ‘new normal’, with all of us having been asked to limit our human-to-human contact to slow the spread of COVID-19, it does not mean locking yourself away for the foreseeable future.

And recent bumper surf has attracted surfers – despite the chilly sea temperatures of 9.5°C.

Current government advice is for all Islanders to practise
social distancing – reducing their contact with people outside their household.

But Health Minister Richard Renouf urged people to get outside in the fresh air and ‘do some gardening or walk the dog in a quiet lane’.

And Jersey could – if Islanders are lucky – be in for its warmest day of the year so far this week.

Temperatures are expected to reach at least 14°C tomorrow but forecasters say a light easterly force three breeze might keep temperatures down. The UV index is forecast to be four – so sun protection is also advised.

Winds are due to drop on Wednesday but there is a slight risk of showers.

Temperatures peaked at 14.9°C last Wednesday – the warmest day of the year so far.

The average maximum for this time of the year is about 12°C.
