Jersey tug aids rescue off Guernsey

The Channel Seaways cargo vessel Valiant reportedly encountered steering problems during its voyage from Poole to the Channel Islands overnight and the issue became exaggerated as it neared Herm on Sunday.

The Duke of Normandy worked alongside the Guernsey pilot board Golden Spur and the island’s work boat, Sarnia, to help the Valiant into port in deteriorating weather conditions.

A rope was attached to the 1,500 tonne cargo vessel just outside Guernsey’s harbour and the Duke of Normandy towed it safely into the port.
