Community service for man with drugs stash

Kieran James Wisdom (28) was discovered with 349g of the class B drug cannabis resin when officers were called to his home following concerns about his friend, Ashleigh Thomas Green. Mr Green later died in hospital after suffering a severe reaction to MDMA.

Wisdom appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, when he admitted possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply, possession of cannabis resin and possession of MDMA.

The court was told that Wisdom had not supplied any drugs to Mr Green.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris sentenced Wisdom to 160 hours of community service.

Mr Harris said: ‘You have an opportunity to put this behind you. The whole thing was serious… Please learn from the experience, as we don’t want to see you back here.’

Police legal adviser Simon Crowder, prosecuting, told the court that officers attended the defendant’s home on 19 August.

When speaking to the police, Wisdom continually glanced over at a shelf, which led the officer to carry out a search. When he did, he discovered 349g of cannabis resin and 116mg of MDMA – a class A drug.

Advocate Estelle Burns, defending, said the circumstances in the case were ‘nothing short of a tragedy’, and that her client had been deeply
affected by the loss of his friend.

She said her client had a previous conviction for importation of drugs in 2012, but that his situation had changed dramatically since then in that
he now had stable employment.

She urged the court not to impose a custodial sentence, as it would ‘set her client back to square one’. She added: ‘He wishes for me to apologise to the court on his behalf and he says he will never be before the court again.’
