Direct flights to Alderney to begin soon

Air Alderney has announced that flights were due to commence from February on the route, which has not had a regular service since 2007.

The airline said: ‘It’s taken longer than we all had hoped when we first started this project over two years ago, but we truly believe in Alderney’s ability to prosper once a sustainable air service has been established.’

No details have yet been released about the exact start date, how many services will run each week or the price of fares.

A Ports of Jersey spokesman welcomed the news, saying that ‘the introduction of any new air service can only be welcomed in light of the benefit it brings both to the business and visitor economy’.

Air Alderney will operate a desk from the Jersey Aero Club and has added two piston-driven BN-2B Islanders to its fleet of aircraft. The airline previously revealed an ambition to operate further services from Alderney to three other destinations: Lee-on-Solent in Hampshire, Cherbourg and Guernsey.

Aurigny provided regular flights on the Jersey-Alderney route until 2004 and operated ad-hoc services in recent years, while Blue Islands also served Alderney until early 2007. More recently, Aurigny operated an ad-hoc direct service between Alderney and Jersey.
