Soup Kitchen details released

A total of 44 different soups are to be provided by hotels, restaurants and supporting organisations, along with French bread given by bakeries.

Organisers expect to serve 4,000 portions of soup and add to the £165,000 that the annual event has raised to date.

To celebrate the Soup Kitchen’s 21 years, sponsors LGT Vestra Jersey will be handing out commemorative 21st birthday cupcakes to the first 1,000 customers.

The company’s chief executive, Daniel McAlister, said: ‘We love being involved in this community event, which is a fixture in the Island’s calendar. In recognition of such a successful 21 years of fundraising and community spirit, this year we are making an additional contribution in the form of baked goods.

‘We congratulate the Shelter Trust on the fantastic job they do to help the homeless.’

Soup and bread will be available with a requested minimum donation of £3 per portion. Last year’s event raised £14,000.

A band of volunteers will be on hand between 10.30am and 2.30pm to run the operation, with Lady Dalton – the wife of Lieutenant-Governor Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton – due to join the team of soup servers.

Music and carol singing will also be provided and a marquee is to be set up in case of bad weather.

For a full list of the soups on offer, pick up a copy of the JEP on 2 December.
