For £35, people will be able to buy a personalised brick which will then be laid in an alumni pathway at the front of the new school, which is due for completion next year.
Initially the bricks will be laid chronologically where possible and new sections will be added annually as Year 11 students leave and become alumni themselves.
There will also be an area of the pathway for anyone from the local community who wishes to buy a brick even if they did not go to the school.
Money raised by the project will then be ploughed back into the school, enabling extra features to be added to the new building.
Deputy head teacher Paul Letch said: ‘It would be fantastic if local businesses and residents purchased a brick to help their local school continue to build on its many past and more recent successes.
‘The idea for an alumni path was developed because Les Quennevais School is a very special place in the lives of so many past students. We began to consider how we could link the new building to the wider community and particularly our past students and staff who are part of the Les Quennevais School history. The school’s story will continue but in a new location.’
He added: ‘All those students and staff who have been part of the existing school since it opened have their own memories, experiences and friendships that endure well beyond the building itself. Attending Les Quennevais School has shaped the people that they have become. It has been, and will continue to be, a special place for the community of the west of Jersey.’
Mr Letch said that the school currently uses the alumni hashtag #alwaysquennevais, reflecting that even when someone leaves the school they remain a part of the Les Quennevais community.
The pathway will be located at the front of the new building in a plaza in front of the main entrance. All bricks ordered before Easter will be laid in time for the first day of school at the new building in September 2020.
Bricks will have the name of the alumni and the years that they attended the school etched into them.
