POLICE are hunting a man after a woman was allegedly raped by a stranger near toilets in Grouville on Thursday night.

The woman, who is in her late teens, had been waiting at the bus stop next to Longbeach car park on La Rue a Don at around 11.55pm.

A man on foot, who was not known to the woman, and asked whether she needed a lift which she declined, the police say. However, the man returned several minutes later and offered to give her a lift, which again she declined. She was then raped according to detectives.

Police are appealing for information to track the man, who is described at approximately 40 to 50 years old, about 5ft 9in and of stocky or muscular build. He was wearing a large padded coat and a black hat. Police have also said that the man 'had an accent, possibly Mediterranean or Portuguese'.

A police spokeswoman said: 'Police are committed to finding this man and ask that anyone who was in the area last night who may have seen anything suspicious or anything of relevance, no matter how insignificant they think it might be, contact them immediately.'

Anyone with dash cam footage or private CCTV in that area is also asked to contact police.
