States grants above £75K for 2018 revealed

And just one – CT Plus, which operates the Island’s bus service – is yet to submit its accounts, which are required as part of the grant terms.

A ministerial decision signed by Treasury Minister Susie Pinel shows that during 2018 grants totalling £40,602,889 were given out to 31 organisations, among them schools, charities, private businesses with service agreements with the government and sporting bodies. The government reports annually on grants above £75,000.

The list also includes Jersey Overseas Aid grants of £10,083,317 – the highest single figure included in the report.

Jersey Finance was given £5.07m, Visit Jersey £5m and Jersey Heritage £2.998m.

Private fee-paying schools Beaulieu, De La Salle and FCJ, which under their arrangement with the government receive annual grants, received £2,157,056, £1,840,762 and £362,924 respectively.

The Government of Jersey London Office was given £525,000 and the Channel Islands Brussels Office £343,753.

Meanwhile, the report shows that Serco (Jersey) Ltd, which runs the Aquasplash swimming pool on behalf of the government, was given a grant of £468,220.

That was an increase of more than £75,000 for the private company, which has a 20-year contract to operate the pool. The terms, however, are regularly renegotiated. CT Plus Jersey received £125,000 last year, and is the only company, according to the report accompanying the decision, whose accounts are outstanding, bar the Jersey Royal Company, which is exempt from providing accounts for commercial reasons.

Super League Triathlon Jersey Ltd was given £250,000 and Jersey Sport Ltd £1,372,940.

The Battle of Flowers Association, which this year says it is facing losses of up to £30,000 because of adverse weather and increased costs, was given a £145,000 States grant.

In 2017, almost £40m was given out to 30 organisations.
