‘Smoking materials likely cause of Tamba Park fire’

Officers from both the States and honorary forces, several fire vehicles and paramedics were called to the scene in St Lawrence on Tuesday. The fire – which severely damaged three boats and three cars – produced a large plume of smoke that was visible from as far away as Guernsey.

On Thursday, the site’s owner, Jonathan Ruff, said that the fire started near a block of toilets and it therefore could have been caused by a faulty immersion heater.

However, the Fire and Rescue Service yesterday said that ‘discarded smoking materials’ were most likely to blame.

It was the third fire at the site in as many years.
