The 47-year-old suffered cuts which required medical attention following the incident at about 9pm on Saturday.
In a statement, the States police said: ‘Whilst walking across the VIP platform a 47-year-old male was confronted by a taller man who placed both hands on the victim’s shoulders and then bit him hard on the nose, cutting into it.
‘The attack was unprovoked and resulted in the victim receiving lacerations to his nose requiring medical attention.
‘The attacker was unknown to the victim and described as being white, aged in his late 20s to late 30s, 6ft 2in tall and of big build.
‘He had short, cropped dark hair and handlebar-type moustache. He wore a light-coloured, long-sleeved shirt. To date he has not been identified.’
