Jonathan Ruff: ‘Tamba fire was not an insurance job’

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen pouring up from the glasshouse complex on the site after a fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon.

It is the third fire at the site in recent years.

Jonathan Ruff, the owner of Tamba Park, which closed earlier this year, has posted a message on the business’ Facebook page after some Islanders said the blaze seemed suspicious.

In a post entitled ‘Gossip’, he wrote: ‘I just sat down from getting back from the park and my phone is buzzing, people saying have you seen this comment and that comment.

‘Luckily I am thick skinned even more so after 30 days of holidays this summer 🙂

‘But on a serious note;

‘1. It’s not an insurance job we are not covered for this.

‘2. It was an accident! How it happened we don’t know, we will let the professionals figure that out.

‘3. The fire looked worse than it was due to burning plastic, less than 5% of the glass / plastic was effected.

‘4. If by burning something down meant you obtained planning permission it would have been gone a long time ago! and it would be 95% not 5%! (Joke) fortunately the world does not work like this well not in Jersey, burnt down buildings does not effect planning policy.

‘Finally it’s sad to see what we have become when we would rather post “insurance job” or “suspicious” before we say “I hope everybodys ok”

‘Accidents happen and it’s happened to me 3 times now yes unbelievable! trust me I am gutted it causes a lot of stress and upset for me and my family, but sh*t happens and you have to move on and deal with it which is exactly what I will do.

‘I will say no more on the subject, apart from I appreciate the kind comments.’
