Channel Islands Pride event back in Jersey on Saturday

The event will see LGBTQ+ activists, performers and writers attending from the UK, an expanded Pride Village at Jardins de la Mer as well as a new parade route. This year’s event has been dubbed #PrideOnTheBeach due to its new location.

Organisers have said that they are gearing up for the ‘biggest Pride celebration to date’ and that they have received unprecedented levels of support from the local business community.

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society is continuing to support the event as headline sponsor, Citibank is lead sponsor, and other sponsorship has come from G4S, MasonBreese, RBC, Barclays, HSBC and Lloyds, enabling organisers to keep the event free to attend.

Islanders taking part in the march are being asked to gather in the Royal Square at 1pm, with the parade beginning at around 2pm.

The parade will culminate in a celebration, speeches and live entertainment at the Pride Village, which this year has an enhanced range of attractions including more than 40 food, drink, charity and merchandise stalls. Entertainment for the event includes a silent disco as well as performances from bands including the London Gay Big Band.

The event alternates between being hosted in Jersey and Guernsey each year.

Christian May, director of Channel Islands Pride, said: ‘We have been absolutely blown away by the level of support Pride has received this year from the local community and would like to thank all our sponsors who have generously donated funds and their time to make sure we can put on this community, family-friendly event, and keep it free for everyone to attend.

‘I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the milestone of five years of Channel Islands Pride – it’s like nothing we’ve seen before and we can’t wait to welcome everyone – LGBTQ+ or allies, people from Jersey, Guernsey and visitors from overseas – to really celebrate our islands in all their diversity.’

The event opens at 2pm and this year has a dedicated children’s play area.
