Roadworks: Drivers warned to expect delays

The work, at the junction of Longueville Road and Rue St Thomas, is due to start next Monday. Although the project will be carried out during evenings and weekends to avoid peak-traffic times, Islanders are still being warned to expect disruption.

During the first stage of the work the road surface will be removed and repairs will be made. The second phase will take place in October, when the road will be resurfaced.

Traffic will be affected on the following dates during the first phase:

  • Monday 9 September to Friday 13 September from 7pm to 11pm. Lanes will be closed.
  • Sunday 15 September from 9am to 8pm. The junction of Longueville Road and Rue St Thomas will be closed and drivers will be diverted.
  • Monday 16 September to Friday 20 September from 7pm to 11pm. Lanes will be closed.
  • Sunday 22 September from 9am to 8pm. The junction of Longueville Road and Rue St Thomas will be closed and drivers will be diverted.

Drivers are also being told to expect delays when reconstruction work is carried out at the eastern end of Rue Gros within the Rue des Prés Trading Estate from 16 to 20 September.

Rob Cabot, highway maintenance manager, said: ‘The underlying layers of Longueville Road at the junction with Rue St Thomas are beginning to disintegrate, so it is important that we carry out this project.

‘We will need to remove 150mm of the road’s structure, adjust the levels of manhole covers, and replace the tarmac in two layers, which will take two weeks. We will then add a high-friction surface to the top of the tarmac in October, once the tarmac has weathered.’

During the Sunday closures, access to Longueville Manor Hotel will be from the west of the junction; access to Rue des Prés Trading Estate will be from the east only; residents of Rue des Prés will only be able to access from the south, and residents of Rue St Thomas will only be able to access from the north. Information about the timing of the second phase will be released in the coming weeks.
