Airport passengers up for fifth year running

THE number of people passing through the Airport continues to rise after five consecutive years of growth.


Figures up to the end of July recorded 971,535 passengers using the facility – 34,053 more than in the same period last year and 61,743 more than January to July 2017.

However, during the same seven-month period there were 9,714 fewer passengers passing through the Island’s harbours compared to the same time in 2018.

A spokesman for Ports of Jersey said: ‘July 2019 itself saw a slight increase in air passengers compared to 2018 with 182,879 travelling through Jersey Airport compared to 181,851 the previous year – an increase of 1,028 passengers (+0.6%).

‘EasyJet holds the largest market share with 37.9% followed by British Airways at 24%, Flybe at 18.2% and Blue Islands at 15.7%.

‘All regions continue to perform well year-to-date with the London market up 7%, the north-west at 13% and Channel Islands 18%.’

Last year, 1.68 million passengers passed through the Airport – the highest recorded figure since 1999.
